About Kate Trafford

Kate Trafford

Hi. I'm Kate Trafford. I'm a business consultant, speaker and coach, and I love to help individuals, teams and organisations set themselves up for effortless and enjoyable success.

Well, life is a Journey, and I've certainly taken a scenic route to where I am today!

I began my career in the Nuclear Industry as a Chartered Chemical Engineer (I know, right?!). It didn't take me long to realise I was a whole lot happier, and more effective, when dealing with people than with spreadsheets. So I moved through a series of engineering project roles, into Technical Client Support and eventually into Government Relations / Public Affairs.

I've always had a passionate commitment to adding as much value as possible, whatever I'm doing. So it was during this time that I began learning as much as I could about the whole arena of 'personal effectiveness', from time management and creative problem solving, to high-impact presenting and influential communication. I read everything I could lay my hands on, took numerous courses (many of which I self-funded) and threw myself into active experimentation to discover the small changes that make a big difference.

Then in 1999 along came the first of my beautiful children, and my world was turned upside down! While off on maternity leave, I did a great deal of soul-searching. I knew my previous life, dashing around on my adrenalin-fuelled 60 hour work week, was no longer an option - unless I was willing to completely delegate the best job I'd ever had. But I also knew that I wanted to be the best Mum I could be while still living the fullest life possible, and growing and learning at a rapid rate. Most of all, I wanted to wake each morning and feel the thrill of the day ahead, whether that was a day with my daughter or a day at work. I'd outgrown the wonderful life I'd previously created for myself, and I needed to create a new alternative...

I wondered what would be possible if I started with a blank sheet of paper. I asked myself some powerful questions, like "Who am I really?" and "Which aspects of my work don't feel like work?" And I considered, with open eyes and an open heart, "What is it that makes me feel truly alive?" I glanced across at the towering pile of self-development books next to my bed (so high it was in need of scaffolding!) and had a flash of the blindingly obvious. I was at my best, and my happiest, when discovering and bring out the very best in myself and others!

And so it was that I made the bold (some might say 'crazy') decision to resign from my job and launch my business as an independent Development Consultant. I built on the qualifications I already had in NLP and related fields, became a Certified Trainer, and put my heart and soul into my new adventure. I soon carved out a niche providing 'soft skills' training (effective communication, impact and influence, powerful presenting, etc) and coaching support to other technical professionals, and their managers and leaders. Over time, my client-base grew to span both the Private and Public Sectors, supporting organisations such as Westinghouse, AMEC, the Government Office for the North West, and the NHS. During this period I also co-designed, developed and delivered a full suite of internationally-recognised NLP, Hypnotherapy and Coaching certification programmes along with my associate and training partner Tiffany Kay. We established ourselves as the training team recommended by John Overdurf (the US-based co-developer of Humanistic Neuro Linguistic Psychology, HNLP™), for the UK and Western Europe. In 2011, we walked away from that venture in order to create our own unique contributions to the field.

Throughout this time, my work has evolved beyond 'success coaching' into an exploration of 'effortless success'. What are the factors which determine the ease with which we get results? What contributes to inner struggle and stress, inter-personal strife, and organisational resistance? What is the source of meaning and satisfaction in our lives, the unsinkable spirit which can carry us through the most challenging of times? This investigation has taken me down many fascinating by-roads, as I picked up a Post Grad qualification in Professional Development and became a Master Hypnotherapist and Certified Trainer of Advanced Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. It is this understanding of the unconscious workings of the mind, individually and collectively, which is now most central to my work.

In addition to my ongoing consultancy work and programme delivery, through my company Cruise Control for Life Ltd, I make regular Guest Speaker appearances. Over the past 4 years in particular, I've had the chance to 'road test' and refine my Cruise Control concept with a range of organisations large and small - from NLP Groups and Coaching Forums to Engineers, professional Fleet Managers and a group of 250+ Approved Driving Instructors at their recent Annual Conference! Last year, I was also blessed to be chosen as one of the winners of the 'Movers and Shakers' competition for aspiring authors and speakers run by international publishing giant, Hay House. If you'd like to take a look at my winning video submission, here it is:

There have been many bumps in the road, and I've even ended up nose-down in a ditch on more than one occasion. But sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. And when you're in it for the long haul, either way is better!

I am currently embarking on the next exciting phase of my Journey, as I write my first book, "Cruise Control: Your Guide to Effortless success". My Dream is to help as many people as possible wake up to their own true nature as the limitless, powerful Creators they are.

I currently live in Warrington, in the North West of England, with my husband and two children. And I do wake each morning and feel the thrill of the day ahead...

To your effortless success,

Kate x
